Stormdrain Awareness Art project

Only Rain Down The Drain! The Indian River County Stormdrain Awareness Art project kicks off with its first official painted drain at the County Admin building! The project, started by Alexis Peralta, County Stormwater Educator, is to educate citizens about the importance of our stormdrains and preventing pollution. The project could not be accomplished without the partnership and dedication of Crystal Ploszay owner of Unicorn Epoxy, and Linda Moore President of the Downtown Vero Beach Mural Project. The first drain is painted by local artist Deanna Derosia, owner/creator of Sealacanth Studios. She paints a native and protected bird species; the beautiful Roseate Spoonbill. With the project slogan "Only Rain Down the Drain", the artwork educates the public that rain flows through this stormdrain to canals and to the Indian River Lagoon where Spoonbills feed. We must keep the stormdrains free of pollution and protect our local ecosystem. More stormdrains around IRC will be painted starting in September 2020!
